Lacy Miller

Lacy Miller is a singer-songwriter and professional entertainer with touring act “Gracie & Lacy and the Legends Band.” Eight years ago, Lacy, her mother, and her sister Gracie rented a little house in Old Village Mt. Pleasant on vacation from their former home in St. Louis. Walking along the Pitt St. Bridge at sunset, they fell in love with the Lowcountry and decided to relocate their home and entertainment business here two months later. The sister duo has a monthly residency at Forte Jazz Lounge in Charleston and perform at many local events when not on tour.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I come from a history-loving family with French Huguenot roots in the Charleston area dating back to the 1690s.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I am celebrating 25 years in show business with my sister, Gracie. I love songwriting – especially writing custom songs about real people that uplift and inspire.

Additionally, I have been very involved in advocating for a performing arts venue to be built in Mt. Pleasant and am on the artistic advisory panel for the Mt. Pleasant Community Arts Center nonprofit that is spearheading the project. My sister and I have been very active in bringing arts integration programs into Mt. Pleasant schools.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
Tavern and Table is my Shem Creek favorite. I also love the view from the Fish House, and of course, Page’s Okra Grill is a where I take my out-of-town guests for brunch.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
Eight years

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
Major General James Livingston is a fascinating person and Medal of Honor recipient who gives so much of his time to honor our veterans and Gold Star families. He is inspiring in that he has given so much through his heroic military service, and he continues to give and serve the community.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
Paris because of my French ancestry and the romance and beauty of the city.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
It’s A Wonderful Life starry Jimmy Stewart.

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Never let your past define you or hold you back; ask God for help and then help others.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
Winning a GRAMMY award.

Q: What is your go to band when you cant decide what to listen to?
I am a huge fan of Michael Buble, Whitney Houston, and Josh Groban.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
The Pitt St. Pharmacy – it reminds me of Mr. Gower’s Drugstore in It’s A Wonderful Life.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
Darius Rucker – he can pick the place, I just want to pick his brain about songwriting!

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
The pier dances – I love Shaggin’ on The Cooper!

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I want to have a recording studio in my house so I can write and record music. And I want to have a family. I’d love to write songs that heal, uplift, and inspire people that make enough money so I can pour it into helping with mental health programs, domestic violence awareness and prevention, and adoption.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I love to design and sew my own clothes. I love to chop up my existing clothes and make them into something new. I also love to people watch and many of my original songs are about local people and places I observe.

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
I think the correct answer to this question is Mt. Pleasant! I love the view from the Pitt St. Bridge.

Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
April – I love seeing the window boxes in bloom! Christmas is my favorite holiday and the day after Christmas is the best day because I am not working or preparing for a show and can just spend time with family.

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
The beach! Sullivans Island and Folly Beach are my faves – there is no better place to walk, pray, or just breathe!

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
God and my family and friends

Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
Coffee and coffee!

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
“May you always return where the sun sets through the steeples…” This is the opening line of my song “The Charleston Anthem” inspired by the skyline of the Holy City coming over the bridge.
