Joy Yarborough

Joy is the President/CEO of the Lowcountry Pregnancy Center. She has served in the non-profit life affirming arena for over 30 years, first in the Michigan area and then in Charleston. Joy has been employed by the Lowcountry Pregnancy Center for over 28 years. As CEO, she has had the privilege of supervising, training, mentoring, and equipping both client services and administrative staff and volunteers.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I am married to the love of my life, and we have one fantastic son together.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
My original career was in the world of professional theatre, but helping people in need in the “real world” became my true passion.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
I really like Fuji Sushi and Clean Eatz.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I have worked in the North Charleston area for over 28 years.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
Marti Scallon, one of our site Directors. She is a fascinating and talented woman.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I love London, England. The history and the people are incredible to me.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
“You Can’t Take It With You” from 1949

Q: What advice would you give to people?
I think Luke 10:27 sums it up beautifully, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.'”

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
I’d like to go back out to the Rockies and take a full day horse pack trip.

Q: What is your go to band when you cant decide what to listen to?
I listen to classical music when I don’t know what else to listen to.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
Lowcountry Pregnancy Center

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
I love the friendliness of the people.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I hope to be growing and continuing to develop in my role as CEO, and I’d like to have grandchildren!

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I just started bee keeping, and I love it!

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado

Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
My favorite time of year is between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Christmas is my favorite holiday.

My husband:)

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My staff is incredible, and they inspire me to keep growing and learning.

Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
I love the smell of lemons.
