Julie Wheeler

Julie Wheeler is a local artist + muralist. She grew up in Cleveland, Ohio. At a young age she started attending drawing and painting lessons, where she found a love for art. In college she took numerous studio art courses to further her education in the art field. With her eye for interior design, Julie has enthusiastically taken on private painting commissions for lacking spaces in offices + homes. Along with canvas paintings she has found a love for mural work. She offers custom home and business wall art.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
My family is very important to me and are a huge part of my being an artist today. They have supported my dreams. My parents inspired me at a young age to pursue what I’m interested in.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I’m currently a full-time freelance artist. I love the freedom to express myself and be my own boss. I hope to continue my success and grow my name.

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?
My top restaurants in Charleston are Oscars (Summerville), Pages Okra Grill, Vicious Biscuit, The Mustard Seed

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I’ve lived and worked in Charleston for 3 1/2 years.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
I’ve met so many wonderful/interesting people in the community.

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
I would love to travel to Greece. The beaches and landscape look so breathtaking. I feel like there would be so much inspiration! I bet the food is ridiculously good. Greek cuisine is one of my favorites!

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Don’t take yourself too seriously and it’s never too late to follow your dreams!

Skydiving

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
I’m new to the area.

Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
Instead of picking a celebrity I would say getting lunch with one of my closest friends would be the most meaningful. I’d take them to a Charleston staple like Poogan’s Porch.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
I love the history of the city!

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I see myself continuing to grow my business and develop my artistic style. I’d also love to be a mother one day. Traveling is on my bucket list before kids.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I’m 3 years sober 🙂

Isla Mujeres, Mexico

October, Christmas, November 19th (upcoming wedding date)

Being a dog mom! haha

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My fiancé inspires me to be the best I can be.

Popcorn and fresh cut grass
