Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I have three teens – Anya, 13; Wesley, 15; and Jackson, 18.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I’ve been a pastor for almost 20 years, the last four as the planting pastor of Two Rivers Church. I love getting to help people connect with each other and connect with a faith community, especially when they’ve been isolated from or harmed by a past church. Getting to meet new people and connect friends together are some of my favorite parts of what I do!

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?

Commonhouse Aleworks – for any occasion, it is one of the best outdoor spaces in all of Charleston. I’ll love Five Loaves in Summerville and Vined, A Vegan Experience in North Charleston. Vined is quickly becoming one of my new favorites.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
10 years

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
Kennae Miller from Transformation Yoga and Germaine Jenkins at Fresh Future Farm

Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be and why?
Kenya is currently at the top of my bucket list. I would love to encounter the deep culture, the food and the history of that amazing country.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

The Wizard of Oz has been my favorite movie since childhood. Kim’s Convenience is a favorite new show,  and my kids and I love The Mandalorian.

Q: What advice would you give to people?
Let’s listen more, especially to those whose voices don’t get a lot of attention. Look at the people who live at the edges of our society – those whose voices are rarely heard– and listen deeply.

Q: What is something on your bucket list?
I want to drive cross country relatively slowly in six months.

Q: What is your go to band when you can’t decide what to listen to?
I don’t listen to a lot of music but I always have an NPR station programmed as number 1 on my radio.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
Orange Spot Coffee House- it is a great place to drink coffee and meet up with folks in Park Circle.

Q: If you could choose anyone who is alive today to have lunch with, whom would it be? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
Alyson Felix, the incredible Olympics track and field star – I would love to talk to her about life, her advocacy for Black maternal health, and her life as an entrepreneur.  I’d love to take her to Vined!

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
The Gullah Geechee culture and history is one of my favorite things about the Lowcountry! It is amazing for all of its contributions to the Lowcountry.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I would love to be here serving and growing in the community. I’m excited to see how Two Rivers expands.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I am left handed, and, maybe more interesting, I lived in India for a year and a half.

Q: What is the most beautiful place you have ever been?
Obviously, I love Charleston, especially the beach at sunrise, but the mountains in Ecuador are beautiful!

Q: Favorite month? favorite holiday? and best single day on the calendar?
August is my favorite month – I love the heat. All of Christmas is my favorite holiday – I get started celebrating in mid November!  The first day of summer vacation is always a favorite day, but when I get married in May, May 28 will be the best day

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
The first sip of coffee in the morning.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My kids… and Jesus, obviously!

Q: What is one or two of your favorite smells?
I love how freshly baked bread and cake smells as soon as you pull it out of the oven. I also love the smell of the ocean, when I’m standing with my toes just at the waterline.

Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Comfort, safety, and delight
